Project Updates from Katie
Happy Spring, everyone! I shudder every time I look at the calendar to see how much time has passed already. I feel like it was just a week ago that I decided to even take on any of this.
So where are we after all that time? Whenever I describe production to non-industry friends/family, it comes with a lot of “what ever happened to that thing you did?” Whether it’s pre-production and the work is sort of invisible just yet or whether the film is already long gone - like most art, producing films is short lived.
It must look like a lot of nothing is happening most of the time. And honestly, while you’re trying to work a full-time job on top of all this passion-seeking, sometimes the work is put on pause.
A lot of pre-production has involved conversations and planning things. Making phone calls and sending emails. Setting dates, arranging logistics, etc. In terms of producing, we can check a lot of things off our list so far: we have a really solid pass of our budget and schedule together, we have locked in the majority of our crew, we have begun casting, we have a lot of great concepts and prop work that has been revving up and we are currently getting ready for our first big location scout!
It’s a lot to do! Megan has done a great job of sharing some of the photos of our most recent meetings and work. I’ll be sharing some more soon as well if you want to follow along on our social media pages.
One of the biggest tasks we have been working on is the planning of a fundraiser. We’re hoping for some additional support to make the whole process possible. So we are throwing a fundraising event to launch our Kickstarter campaign and to raise awareness about opportunities to get involved in the community of Los Angeles. If you’re interested in hearing more, reach out to us through the website or social media. We’d love to tell you more about it.
In terms of directing, both Josh and I have begun to breakdown our films and start having conversations with our Directors of Photography and Production Designer. We’re essentially taking the script and rewriting it into a more precise blueprint for the direction of the visuals and acting. Every moment that leads up to the word "action" and then subsequently, "cut" are going to be as planned for as much as they can or need to be.
All of our work at this point is to get us to a place where we can really start sharing what the vision is with the rest of the crew so that we can do our best to make it happen together. The more and more we get into it, the more I want to share with you what we're really excited about for these films.
